Is an online test recognised?
Yes. Austro Control’s requirements for language assessments explicitly provide for tests “in person or online”; supervision may take place via technical means such as video. The result is the same certificate as for a test on site.
The EU requirement that the assessment include face-to-face and voice-only situations (AMC1 FCL.055) is particularly easy to meet online: during the interview, the examiner switches their camera off for a while.
What you need
- Device: a laptop or PC is ideal; smartphones and tablets also work.
- Camera: for the ID check and Part I. Good light from the front, not from a window behind you.
- Microphone and sound: a headset with microphone is best – it avoids echo and background noise.
- Internet: as stable as possible. If you can, use a LAN cable or sit close to your Wi-Fi router.
- Zoom: app or browser. You don’t need your own Zoom account – the link in your confirmation email is enough.
- A quiet room: free from interruptions for the duration of the test.
How the test runs in Zoom
- You open the Zoom link from your booking confirmation 5 minutes before the start.
- Your examiner admits you to the meeting and checks your ID and – if you have one – your licence.
- After a short briefing, Part I (pictures, questions, ATC and ATIS) and Part II (interview) follow.
- After about 30 minutes the test is over. The certificate arrives by email within 24 hours.
If the technology fails

Privacy during the tech check
The check on this page runs entirely in your browser. Camera image and microphone signal are neither stored nor transmitted to us or third parties. As soon as you leave the page or end the test, camera and microphone are released again.
